Chinese Premier: Climate Change Still Important in Financial CrisisBy Rob Scott • November 7, 2008The Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao, has urged leaders around the world not to forget about their commitments to address climate change in spite of the deepening global financial crisis saying: “As the global financial crisis spreads and worsens, and the world economy slows down apparently, the international community must not waver in its determination to tackle climate change, nor must they ease in its actions.
” Source BalitaComing at a time when America is cutting environmental efforts due to shortfalls in funding indirectly caused by the financial troubles, this news is another shot in the arm for those of us who believe that China is far from the worst performer environmentally, and is a good statement of intent from the Chinese leadership.However, actions speak louder than words, so it will be interesting to see what policy comes out of Beijing over the coming months and years to address Climate Change.
