This is yet another side of this multitalented, gracious actress the incomparable Meryl Streep. Ricki and the flash is a critically acclaimed movie of a mother who is a struggling singer and her departed family. When acting comes to Meryl Streep nothing is worthful than to see her. In this movie we saw her eldest daughter Mamie Gummer sharing the screen with her real life mom as mom. Ricki being too passionate to sing and perform in a band leaves her husband and three Children back at LA and moves to another state to fulfil her dreams. Meanwhile, years went by she grew old her husband got a second wife and as said in the movie she filled the gap in the family which Ricki made it.
But things were rough for Ricki. She never became successful. She rented a room, had a part-time job at a departmental store and sang in a bar with her band Flash. To her surprise one day she received a letter from her husband that her girl is not well and they need her there. She unwillingly went there fearing the torment she’ll receive.But when she got in there she came to know her daughter had recently got dumped by her beau and so was in trauma. She chatted with her went to the parlor had some real mother- daughter time. All this happened due to the absence of their step mother. Everything changed when their step mother came. She insisted her to leave as she has come back and they don’t need her anymore. She left being disappointed with tears but some where deep she knew it was her fault.
Back to where she stayed she had the head band band mate who had a crush on her. He declared his feelings to her and helped her overcome the sadness in her life. Then she receives an invitation card from her husband for her son’s wedding. She felt no need to be a part of it. But her bndmate explained her the importance of standing beside he children. He sold her guitar to make their way to LA.
The movie ends with a scene where Ricki and her bandmate who is in love with her performs some songs which brings every one present in the ball room come down on the dance floor and make a little twist and shout.
The music was amazing and casting absolutely gracious. A really good family reunion.
