We have seen it all, in Satya, in Company, in D, in Sarkar..about the underworld, their abusive and abrasive culture, their hand in gloves operation, the gore, the blood, and what not...!!So where is this movie different?All movies form the RGV clan and his proteges are INSPIRED by real underworld life and this movie is no different. Daya Nayak is the obvious inspiration for Vishram Sawant when he made this movie. Going by some of the interviews Randeep Hooda had mentioned that the SURYAKANT character of Risk was developed much before D was made. Benefit of doubt to Vishram Sawant. We believe you!
Coz the kind of technicalities that the movie deals in are well done research dig -up of the case on Daya Nayak.Last year when Times Now brought the Daya Nayak case into the media, it was a brilliant real life plot. Vishram has capitalized on that. ’Ab Tak Chhappan" was ditto too. Nana Patekar was par excellence in it. The gore was apt. However, certain detailing were a mix of reality and fiction.RISK explores the Daya Nayak episode in detail. From the people who supported him to the people who framed him, his suspension, the enquiry committee on his wealth possession.A mention of ’Special Thanks" to Daya Nayak in the movie says it all.The movie is a story telling by Vishram about Daya Nayak from the latter’s point of view.
Performances:Randeep Hooda excels as Suryakant in this movie with his screen presence. The movie has been made for him and the kind of emotions that are naturaly visible in his composure and body language complement the movie. But there is still scope for improvement. His stiffness in dialogue delivery needs to be more flexible. To tell the truth his performace as a gangster in D and as a cop in RISK are same. The expressions are same. His bullet drive in RISK is exactly the same as his scooter drive in D. Having a serious face is differen than doing a serious role, Randeep must be told.Tanushree Dutta is a cast type as any of the leading ladies from the RGV clan. Be it the earlier Urmila, Antara Mali, or the recent Nisha Kothari. Each of them is replacable and so is Tanushree Dutta. It didnt matter if she was there in the movie. The ’HichkI" song might do some good for the dance bars of mumbai.
Yashpal Sharma is the same as he was in D. Same tone same voice same expressions. I think he is stuck in THIOSE kind of movies and has no where to go. However, here is a case in point- Is average versatility good or excelling on strength is good?Makrand deshpande is wasted. Apart form the unusual looks that Vishram needs for his movies, he has not exploited Makrand much. His character was not developed well. May be it did not need.And the seemingly big comeback VINOD KHANNA.Bangkok, Black Toyota SUVs, the pure white house of his, were packaged well to give that plush look that BHAI needs. But he did not generate much awe as demanded by the Khaleed character. His duel with Randeep over phone was just OK.
He should have watched COMPANY once before that scene and tried to do something close to the duel between Ajay Devgun and Mohan Lal. Khaled’s relationship with his handicap son was not explained well. Same guy who is invlolved in so many merciless killings is angry about Dal thrown on his son.Didnt quite make out what Seema Biswas was doing in such a timid role. May be these kind of movies are ’Bread and butter" for them and movies like ’Alam" and "Water" are their non-veg dish.Other characters: Nothing much to write, most of them died in the movie and as characters.Technicalities:Music: Background score by Amar Mohile, as always, is excellent. "Laakhon karodon mein koi leta hai RISK" has great sound effects. The dagger piercing the human flesh sound also hits you.
And not to mention the sound of bullets flying all over the movie.Narative: Vishram should have used a different/new style rather than keeping the same style as that in Company. But the use of Aditya Srivastav’s voice is good.The bottom line is: If one has followed the Daya Nayak episode on News channels, national papers or on mumbai’s; one is BOUND to continuosly match one’s knowledge and the director’s research. If seen as another movie and scouting for freshness one will SURELY be disappointed.
