Ram Gopal Varma is India’s one of the best directors, has his own style of making movies which was visible in his “Shiva”, Satya, Kaun, Company, Rangeela and so on. but fails to make impressive movies when he just produces it. His earlier production ventures “Pyar Tune Kya Kiya” and “Love keliye kuch bhi karega” were just average films. Now he has an addition to that list “ROAD”.
You expect much from the Creators of this film. you have something to Thrill in the First half. But when you expect a Thrilling Finish, you will be Disappointed.
The Cast
Manoj Bajpai has done a commendable job in the role of Babu. His natural expressions and mannerisms fits perfectly to the role.
Vivek Oberoi is OK in his role which has very little to do.
Anatara Mali is OK with her Lakshmi. She should take more care in her costumes.
The rest of the cast doesn’t have any significant role
Technical Crew
Road is a film with technical brilliance visible all over from the Titles to the last scene
Background Music is First rate
Excellent Cinematography makes Road watchable through out.
The songs are well picturised and music is also good
Direction
Rajat has cloned Ram Gopal Varma style of making movie. His shot execution is excellent. But the movie misfires after Interval. The Script is lacking the Tempo and Punch in the Second half. Also the Item song comes as a hindrance in the story. Vivek Oberoi has very little to do in the Second half. It’s a Manoj Bajpai – Antara Mali film. Throughout. Remember Ram gopal varmas”Daud” Rode is just a technically enhanced version of “Daud”
Some pits on the Road
Its Hard to digest that Rajasthani Police uses Imported Suzuki bikes with Disc Brakes
Tata Safari was shown scratch less in a scene (just a fraction of second) after Manoj hitting it with a Truck from behind.
Overall
We should appreciate Varma & his crew for attempting an offbeat movie that is a new experience to Indian cinema.
“Road” is a Smooth Highway in the first Half which moves into a muddy village road with lots of pits and bumps. You can watch this movie if you wanna see something different and if you are a die-hard fan of those highway-road movies from Hollywood. Technically the movie meets Hollywood standards but fails to impress.
Road has Four things to watch
Cinematography, Background Score, Manoj Bajpai’s acting Anatara Mali’s Skin.
“Don’t Expect much” when you leave for this ROAD
