There are many players like Robin Singh. They are not the ones who are often showered with praise. In fact they are seen as the most dispensable commodity members of any team and referred to derogatorily as ‘bits and pieces’ players.
In other words such players are not match-winners, they are not strike bowlers, they cannot be looked upon to lead the charge against a huge total. Divine intervention has to be called for if such players are to turn a match. They are not stars, they are also-rans. They are the multi-utility diesel vehicles cruising alongside the sleek sedans and saloons. They are just about tolerated because it is fervently hoped that they will hold on to easy catches at least, or chase a couple of boundaries and dive at the risk of hurting themselves (which superstars don’t) and generally chip in with some goodies to make their presence felt.
Robin Singh changed all that. He too was ushered in as the need for a ‘bits and pieces’ player became the accepted norm by all teams. But by sheer perseverance and hard work, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder transformed the concept of the utility player into the indispensable machine operator of the squad. Finally after playing 135 One-day internationals almost on the trot, Robin ‘Rabindra’ Singh finds himself out of the Indian squad for the series against the visiting Zimbabwe.
it was not fair as far as I believe.one of the indias unsung here.but iwas sure he will come back and indeed he has
