Just last week , while I was watching “Jane tu…Ya jane Naa”, during the interval an initial screener of the movie “Rock On!!” was shown. Must say, it was damn impressive. Catchy music, Rock band like graffiti, the works… One of those times when you listen to a small snippet of a track and immediately have this pressing need to listen to the entire gig.
Rock On!!” .. the title track is just like that. It begins with a very riveting guitar piece*
*..which I thought I had heard before. Turned out to be
the background score from the movie Lakshya(when Hritik Roshan and his group
are climbing the mountain)
*Purchased the album from the store yesterday. With sheer disappointment I have to say that it
totally fails to live up to the massive expectations that a viewer builds
during the promo videos. I guess sometimes a creative person/ an artist becomes
so obsessed with his vision that he fails to see that everything part of the
filmmaking process requires a person cut out for it, in other words..avoid
doing a “Himesh Reshamiya”. Farhan Akhtar might have done just that with Rock
On !!
*Farhan
is an absolutely gifted director for sure. I am a complete fan of his work and
have watched and admired every one of his cinematic brilliance with rapt
amazement right from his ace in Dil Chahta Hai. But in the “Rock On!!”
soundtrack the first thing you notice is that 5 of the 9 tracks on the album
are sung by Farhan Akhtar himself.
*To
the say the least, he has made a complete mess of something, that would
otherwise have been cult worship just like DCH. His voice is jaded, and
definitely lacks the power and energy to qualify being a rock band lead singer.
Also for once Javed Akhtar lyrics don’t really reflect the class act that he
generally is. In fact they are pretty pathetic. If this film is been made in
anyway to reflect the Rock scene in India, then the music definitely does it no
justice.
*“Socha
hai” is a passable number sung by farhan akhtar. “Pichle saat dinon main”
totally sucks. Amazingly they have also included a live version of the track on
the album. Don’t know how that would help. What really cracked me up was
“Sindbad the sailor” and especially “Zehreeelay”.*
*Imagine
these being the lyrics of a song:*
"Zehreelay Zehreelay, Kale Neele Peele, Pathar ki hai aankhen, Daanth hai nukeelay.
*"
* Sounds
more like a primary school essay on snakes!!! A
lotta people like me, like a single song and get so obsessed about it that they
are compelled to listen it over and over again, night and day, until they
complete detest it!!*
*“Rock
On!!” the title track is one such song. You might not like it as much when you
listen to it for the first time, but with good number of repetitions, it grows
on you!*
*Really
hope that the movie doesn’t let down as much as the music. Waiting with my
fingers crossed for the release. Till then……..
Rock On!!!!*
