Some artists become so closely associated with their most archetypal characters that they remain unable to live that shadow down. Sylvester Stallone’s knockout masterpiece Rocky Balboa is nothing less than the summation of a career…and not just that of the titular pugilist. Sylvester Stallone’s career has been a non-stop series of extreme highs (Rocky, First Blood, Copland) and extreme lows (Judge Dredd, Stop or My Mom Will Shoot, Rhinestone). He has been embraced and ridiculed, often by the same people for making choices affected more by ego than creative impulse. The supposed swan song for his most revered character, Rocky V, was met mostly with derision by both Stallone’s fans and the critical community at large. Stallone himself has expressed extreme disappointment with the film, and for years was worried that he had perhaps wronged the legacy of the character in some way. With Rocky Balboa, Stallone has set out to right that wrong, and he’s done so with glorious results.
I have to say I am the biggest rocky fan and I loved all five movies, These movies are probably the best movies ever made, now rocky balboa is out in the UK I was there on the first day show at 11.00 with 15 of my mates to say goodbye the best character that ever exist “Rocky Balboa”,
The story starts of in a great way yes we see the rocky balboa name scroll across with the same old music but something was different the writing was yellow the background was blue with flashy images from the movie in the background it was amazing the we go to Mason the line Dixon Ko’ing an opponent out. The crowds boo and start chucking stuff at him in the ring, the commentators say that boxing is in a mad way there is no opponents that can go the distance with Mason and no real challenge out there. Then we see a scene cut to the Moon in Philadelphia and the song hits “Take you back” from frank Stallone what a time to play this I must say it just got to me. We then see an old Rocky get up and feed his turtles Cuff and Link. Yes you should remember them from the first rocky. In this film Rocky is lonely and all upset he visits Adrian’s grave allot. As Adrian is now dead, rocky misses her a lot and he is holding on to the past, we all know how much rocky loves Adrian she was basically his life. Evan you would get a tear on your eye watching how Rocky is we all know the rocky movies title it was “Rocky, 2, 3, 4 or 5” but really Adrian plays a huge character in Rocky. Just remember those times when Adrian and rocky go on there first date, when rocky loses to Apollo and he shouts out “Adrian!” when he doesn’t care who has won or not. When they get married and he is carrying Adrian to his shabby apartment and he says to her that nothing will ever change between us. Where he cries like a little kid when Adrian is in a coma in part II thinking he is going to lose her. When Adrian tells him to win and he actually wins the title from Apollo and says that famous line “YO ADRIAN I DID IT”. We all feel the loss to of Adrian and we all can not believe she is gone. Rocky has restaurant in this movie named “Adrian’s” , his son doesn’t want to know him and is embarrassed of his father as he is a big shadow he believes all the success he has got is because of his last name and not his work abilities. We see rocky living his life, meeting new friends and old friends one example is Little Marie a girl he gave advice to from the original rocky we all know how that ended. Marie now has a son called “Steps” she is a single mom. Rocky one day sees a computer simulated fight between him and mason Dixon the fight goes as this “who would win if rocky was in his prime and Dixon was how he is now” they watch the simulated fight and it shows rocky would win hands down. Rocky gets pumped out and wants to fight again. His son is not happy about this and tells him not to do it. Paulie is thinking he is crazy to go back in the ring. At the end rocky says he has to go back in the ring to let a few things out. There are many great scenes in the film which is amazing and well directed
. Rocky flashback one thing I loved in the movies is when he looks in the pet shop door window and the flashback appears of rocky talking to Adrian. It really makes you remember all the old times in rocky.
. He then looks at the gym, (Mickey’s gym) and says “How ya doing Mick?” just like part V
. Rocky talking to Paulie, about the things in the basement where rocky starts crying and says he never knew things would be this hard and he opens up to him. Amzing I must say really hit me in the soft spot.
. Rocky speech when he gets his licence is too good too
. Rocky speech with his son outside his restaurant on the streets, that has to be the best line in the movie
.Rocky and Marie talk in the car was really good too
. The training will get you pumped up like never before.
. The final fight is at the edge of your seat thing all over again (Rocky Style)
. Many funny moments in the film that will make you laugh.
Stallone does an amazing performance here worthy of an Oscar which he did not get nominated for which is a shame, he is rocky in this movie and we remember the good old rocky days all over again he does such a great performance. The emotion in his eyes, the way he talks is 10 out of 10. Sly is an amazing actor people and no way will you laugh about this. People that said he can not act are crazy I think he is one underrated actor and he is up there with the greatest of all time.
Paulie does amazingly well he can still make us laugh like always and we all love Paulie and he along with sly delivers a knockout performance.
Marie, Steps, Milo does great too in there respected parts.
Overall the movie is a knockout winner Stallone has made maybe the movie of the decade here which no movie can come close to and movie that has everything you want. It will get you believing again and get you pumped up and maybe have a lump in your throat along with a huge smile and we can finally say “ YO ROCKO GOODBYE OLD BUDDY”.
