First of all I want to say that this is great site 50 kms away from manali. Anybody can get taxi easily for the trip.
The way to rohtang is itself great. You will enjoy the zig zag ride very much. The mountains on the way look very much attracting. When you start your trip many stalls will be there to have the overcoats and shoes on rent. The rent is 250/Person which is govt rate, quite high but reasonable considering the remote place. Don’t be over confident, please take the overcoats as the wind at rohtang pass is very much chilling.
Wearing this coats is very easy, but you have to take double care of your valuables as the pockets of these clothes are open and the things can fell anywhere.(While posing, changing clothes etc.)
On the way some falls(Like rabala fall) are there, where anybody can take a small break as these are also good.
Also one important information: After reaching the site, please do not walk too fast as oxygen level at this much height is less and can create breathing problem. If you are with small child then there are chances that you have to start back your journey within one and half hour.
On your return, solang velly is on the way where you can enjoy paragliding, skating, rope way and enjoy the sunshine.
Don’t forget to eat Makka, this is very much different there and delicious.
At last: while handing over your overcoats, please do not forget to take your valuables like(Purse, Mobile etc) from these clothes.
