Sorry if anyone out there is offended when I call Rahman a God, but to me he is similar to one. I was in Thirunalveli, a city in Tamil Nadu, I was visiting my relatives there, they took me to roja, at that time I was not familiar with tamil, I was very much reluctant to go to the movie at first. Once the movie started, the real magic of Manirathnam and Rahman got underway and I was transformed into a world, that world was that of patriotism, love and affection. The first song, choti si asha ( I am translating in hindi, cause I hear or sing that song in hindi till date ). and all the other songs Bharat hum ko jaan se pyaara hai, rukhmani rukhmani. and all the patriotic bits are really cool. They run in my mind till now. If you havent hear roja or dont posses those songs, please go and get a cd and you will realise what you have been missing, Rahman got a National award for that, in all its one of the greatest albums ever.
