Welcome to Rourkela. It’s my personal feelings & review about rourkela that It’s not large as other cities but it has its own beauty. The city is also popularly known as Steel City of Odisha. The city has been shortlisted as one of the SMART Cities under Government of India’s’ SMART City Mission.
So first where is it?
It’s located in the northern border of the Indian state of Odisha near to Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh, WB. Rourkela is located at 84.54E longitude and 22.12N latitude in Sundergarh district of Odisha at an elevation of about 219 meters above mean sea level. The area of Rourkela is 200 square kilometres approximately. Being situated on Howrah-Mumbai rail track, Rourkela had an added advantage of the steel plant being set up there.

From Kolkata 10 h 40 min(499.6 km) via NH6.

Natural Resources:
Rourkela surrounded by a range of hills and encircled by rivers. It’s a clean & Green City so all around you enter rourkela you can have a view of hills, forests & river.
River Brahmani Starts from Vedvyas by combining two rivers(Sankh, Koel) & a stream known as Saraswati. SO it’s known as triveni sangam also.
Some attractions near to roukela are: Vedvyas Temple, Hanuman Vatika, Vaishno Devi Temple, Rani Sati Temple, Jagannath Temple etc.
Picnic Spots near to Rourkela: Khandahar Waterfalls, Mandira Dam, Pitamahal Dam tec.
Praks: It has three parks: Indira Gandhi Park, Jubilee Park, and Ispat Nehru Park Udyaan.
Education: NIT, BPUT, RIT, PIET, PCE, RIMS, Government Autonomous College, Rourkela Municipal College, Ispat College, SG Women’s College. High tech private medical college and hospital.
Sports & Stadiums: Indian captain Dilip Tirkey and deep defender Lazarus Barla started their careers in Rourkela. Sports Hostel, Chhend, Ispat Stadium(Sector-6), Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium(Sector-6), Sports Hostel, Panposh, Ispat Mini Stadium, Fertiliser Township(Sector-22) are some sports place you can find.
