Hell's angel.....

Thats right..thats what you can call me..from all the reviews I have read..non of them have ever mentioned the girls who have swooned around the lightning..for me its a days job and the bike of course is a transition to my being and my evolution!!

Believe me if you are searching for someone out there...go ahead buy this bike and feel her go beneath you like never before...feel her under you and the growls she makes when she gets started...now thats called a experience....

My modified bike with its dual lamps, it eagle shaped stands and its glowing body...... in the night. I can go on forever about it.But I thought I should share my experience with you.

The tips I can give you on this animal is?..go slow in this baby initially?ease the bike out slowly so that all the parts are well tuned and I would personally give this bike a running time of 2000km..for sure. remember costlier the bike the more you have to be careful with its maintenance ..many would say that this bike is for ramming ?but believe me do that and you will end up a smaker.

Another important thing is, this bike is a strictly no no for beginners, you must have at least simple mechanical knowledge before owning this bike.it is true there are oil slicks sometimes but there is nothing much to worry about. Initially I had a few problems as my spark plug used to get burnt up due to the excess heat that is produced in the combustion chamber (c.c. )as it is neither a water or oil cooled engine. Problem was solved ?it was due to the misalignment of the contact points.

Another important area I noticed was that this bike had some battery problem..if you didn?t start the bike for a couple of day you could end up stroking it at least 10 times..a electric start is a whopping Rs35, 000 as it has to be imported?unbelievable but true.

There was also some fuse blockage in my bike , which was due the fact that there was clogging in the carburetor .that was easily settled (visited the dealer). But this was really a headache cause when I used to tip the bike at 110kms the fuel got shut and my bike switched off at this speed imagine that happening !!! quite a nightmare..

But, truly this bike has really embossed into my existence with all its problems. It has really made me a true biker and I have learnt a lot from this bike.

Lastly, I would clearly not put down other bikes in front of mine.. cause you even have to respect your subjects to be a good leader.haha.

Send me a mail if you have any doubts ?

will write more..((the more mess I get in)))

as I promised.....Some great tips and walkthrough that will be your next spanner......

The motorbikes are Royal Enfield, Lightning 535’s. These bikes may be 535cc however the power output is pretty high at only 25bhp. Big bikes are not generally available in India and the Royal Enfields are the biggest ones made there(as far as I was able to find out anyway(rumors of a 625cc Royal Enfield but no definate info. available). The cost of buying and importing a big bike into India would work out at least double what the locally made Royal Enfields would cost(Rs 78, 000)(Currency Conversion). For this reason and the availability of parts we decided to go with the Lightning 535’s. In addition the Royal Enfield bikes have allot of style/character(in the old fashioned sort of way) and after all ’’Image is everything’’. The bikes are also relatively simple to fix when problems occur. I think the picture below is of the 500cc version but I assume the 535 is very similar.

RECOMMENDED SPARE PARTS

spark plug, contact breaker assembly,

head light lamp,

solution, ??

several tubes (they easily tear apart when you have a flat tire),

fasteners of all kind,

chain lock,

front break and clutch cable,

eventually one tire.

Maintenance:

keep a close eye on the oil level: it WILL use oil and you may have to top-up during a long ride (300 - 400km is, believe me, a long ride on an Enfield). Lots of oil over the primary-drive case

(left-hand-side) is due to the C shaped clip on the breather hose: replace it with a jubilee-clip or something else O-shaped.

Check the tappets EVERY day when you first get the bike; you’ll find somebody to show you how if necessary. When you’re familiar with the machine you may want to check them less often but I did it every day for nine months. Tight tappets will kill the valves very quickly.

Get familiar with the points, keep them clean and adjusted and learn how to adjust the timing (ignition) so you can counter the effect of crappy fuel (as we approached Goa over a number of days we had to keep retarding and retarding the ignition as the fuel got worse and worse). Also, they cut the

petrol with kerosene sometimes so you have to put a little 2-stroke oil in with the petrol because the kerosene washes away the lubricants from the cylinder head.

good..now that I have concluded..if you want some more send me suggestions ...

so that I will be encouraged to write more...

Take care.
