Rudramadevi is a historical war film directed by Gunasekhar and written by Gunapam Sekshar starring Anushka Shetty, Allu Arjun, Rana Daggubati, Nithya Menen, Catherine Tresa and Prakash Raj. The movie is said to India’s first historical stereoscopic 3D film.
The movie is set in the ancient Kakatiya Dynasty ruled by Ganapati Devudu. His wife gives birth to a baby girl Rudramadevi . With the help of his minister Shiva Devaiah, Ganapathi Devudu hides the identity of the baby and makes everyone believe that baby is a boy as he thinks that no one would accept a girl as his successor and thus Rudramadevi becomes Prince Rudra Devudu. Later Rudra Deva understands the reason behind this mystery and continues to act as a male.
Anushka was good as Rudramadevi but I couldn’t see the expected fire from her character. Rana did justice to his character. But the real surprise factor was Allu Arjun. He topped the table with a majestic screen presence and terrific performance.
I read somewhere that Gunasekhar took years to research about the ancient history of Rudramadevi and Kakatiya Dynasty. With all due respect to his hard work and passion, am really sad to say that he failed miserably in conveying his magnum opus in front of the audience. Even though the first half was descent, the second half was a complete torture of my patience.
The makers of the film said that movie is made with a budget of whooping 100 crores. Seriously?! Or are they kidding?! Magadheera which was made with less than half the budget of this film can be considered as a masterpiece before this film. Amateurish graphics and VFX was a big letdown. The songs are not all impressive and Ilayaraja disappoints like anything.
Every director has the freedom to make a film according to their will and vision. But the makers also have a commitment towards the audience who are paying to watch their final product. For me the film was a yawn fest. Totally disappointed.
