Nonsense would be an understatement!

I titled my review what I exactly think of this movie, because I couldn’t find a worse possible phrase to describe the flick. What a pathetic movie!I have no clue what posessed me to see it.’Rudraksh’ has got to be one of the worst flicks ever.

THE CAST

Varun:played by Sanjay Dutt, a modern brahmin, of sorts with amazing, inexplicable capabilities, always eager to drive away others’ pains.

Bhuria:played by Suneil Shetty, a nothing person really, a supposed labour contractor who turns himself to a demon to rule the world.

Rani:Played by Ishaa Koppikar.Lover of Bhuria, not much else about her evident from the movie.A labourer of sorts.

Gayitri:Played by Bipasha Basu, a researcher in U.S.A., who wants to win a nobel prize by making some revolutionary discovery.

THE PLOT

’Ravana Yug’ is back again, the demons are supposed to rule the world, thats what Bhuria is, the first demon recruited by the powers of evil.It all happens when he stumbles upon a certain ’Rudraksh’, a seed given to Ravan as aboon from Lord Shiva before he was wiped out by ’Rama’.He decides to worship it, having nothing better to do.Eventually he posesses immense power& wants to rule the world, where everyone would be a demon. He sets about doing that by doing the following:converting people to demons by making them listening to a mantra, and by turning people against people. He also wants a ’brother’, a powerful accomplice to help his cause. And eventually embarks on a quest to find one. The other person, he’s looking for is Varun, a modern brahmin who spends day and night curing the ’hurt and the ill.’Gayitri, comes across him, in her search for people with special powers ands falls for him.But somehow Bhuria comes to know of Varun, and is hell bent on making him his ’brother’, convinced he’s the one for the job.But Varun won’t give in to the forces of evil till the very end, when after enduring the utmost tortures, he realises that he would have to become a demon himself, the only way to finish off the scum, Bhuria. So, thats what he does, and successfully eliminates Bhuria and ’Ravanraj’, ’rule of evil’ threatening to take over the world at one point of time.Thats the story as I spit it out.I use the word spit, as it’s worthy of just that.Really, how bogus can afilm get? After reading such a crazy plot, i’m sure you are begining to understand my point.Let me tell you some other details.

THE PATHETIC STUFF IN THE FILM

DIRECTION:When one wants to convey such an abstract concept to the people, he/she has to ensure that the person is perfect in the portrayal of the movie and well hasn’t the director made a colossal mess of this one.In a movie like this, the situation has to sink in for people to take anything out of it.But on the contrary, we find one situation after another without clarity in any of them.

ACTING:

BIPASHA BASU:Gave the impression she was an unwilling actress forced to act, seeming as disinterested as one can be, rushing through her roles.Did her usual bit, revealing whatever she thought she hadn’t in previous flicks, desparately trying to make up for it, leaving little to the imagination.

ISHAA KOPPIKAR:Acting was ok, but then her role was so pathetic.I doubt anyone could’ve made anything good out of it.She was just there to hug and squeeze Suneil, thats it in the few scenes she appeared, except the fight, Wait a mo!, tell you about it.

SUNEIL SHETTY and SANJAY DUTT:Both acted as well as could have been done, with a plot and direction as bad as this, noone was going to make an impression anyway.

ACTION and SPECIAL EFFECTS: All the special effects were in the action scenes .To be fair the effects weren’t bad but the action was pretty comical.I mean there was no saving grace in the movie everything in it was without foundation. As if all this wasn’t enough, they tried to copy Matrix scenes, with Sanjay Dutt trying to dodge Suneil’s fireballs, Everyone flying around in the air dodging things.Making things move without touching.Must tell you it was not at all impressive, nothing more than comical. To add to the comedy, Ishaa Koppikar kept coming back flying at Sanjay again and again, like an irritating cat persistently trying to pester you, till Sanjay disposes of her finally. Trust me, be a little creative and imagine her with a half-smiling-half-angry face doing all this, nothing could be more funny. We had Suneil, splitting into 4 to remind us of ’Reloaded’. All the Suneils simply wait for their turn to be bashed. How bogus!

SONGS:None worth mentioning, were only 3-4 anyway, and by what i’ve said till now, you must have understood how things went in this movie. So, I’ll leave them out.

OTHER THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

1.Every event was instaneous, like a slide show, appear-disappear-appear-...Its hard to make out when whats coming, the ending came and went as suddenly and unexpectedly.Poor direction again.

2.Loads of things were taken for granted, whenever things seemed confusing, the scene was followed by an irrelevant next scene or a sequel which took assumptions even the movie couldn’t explain.

3.It is too unrealistic, gives us no reason to believe in what the movie shows, you’ve got Bipasha fidgeting with nonexistent gadgets like Tom Cruise in Minority Report(although I wasn’t convinced), too idealistic the circumstances, ...a pujari with a laptop, now thats afirst for me. A mutant rat converting a girl to a demon just by looking at her, affecting no one else(sure I believe it, laughs!).Then to top it all, the girl trying to do a spiderman on all fours up the walls of a building after kicking out at Bips and lashing out at Sanjay, and meeting her own death, in the process. And broadcasting a mantra is enough to convert the whole world to demons, no matter how disinterested they may be.What a great movie!!!(total crap).

4.If you are one who watches out for the babes, definitely a must see for you, Bips and Ishaa provide ample instances.

5.The concept was too far fetched, and was a badly executed projection of an already rotten idea.

-A NITIN MANMOHAN PRODUCTION

Take my advice, stay well clear of this movie. I must confess, I’m truly embarrassesd to have seen such a sick film. Torture at its worst! Don’t punish yourself!
