Saahasam Soundtrack (2105): Review
Thaman is well known for his groovy tunes and novel usage of drums, and, his latest album Saahasam is no different.
The album which has a total of five songs, starts with, ‘Desi Girl’, a foot tapping number, sung by Silambarasan and Lakshmi Menon; though the track have the beats we hear in usual Thaman albums, the blend of lyrics and novelty in singing makes it a repeatable track. The second is a melody, ‘O Madhu’, sung by Anirudh Ravichander.
This song just brings back that old Thaman with a fresh breeze of soulful music, the use of guitar to be noted. The third one is a complete desi track, ‘Pidikkum’ sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal; inspite of having two great singers, the song stays average.
The next is, ‘Angry Bird’ by Mohit Cahuhan, a breezy track with some acoustic instrumental usage, undoubtedly the best track of the album, with the flute tune in the end offering a feel. The final song, ‘Sayang Ku’ is rip off of Thaman’s own song ‘Notaki’ from the 2014 Telugu movie Power; certain beat changes made were good.
There is even a bonus track sung by Vijay Prakash, the unplugged version of O Madhhu, his voice itself takes the song to another level. Still, for the following he has, Thaman is playing in the safe zone; he has to try some novel stuff. Overall, Thaman’s ‘Saahasam’ is an album that lie lot on instruments which may be repeatable for a short number ofdays; still enjoyable. Lyrics lie as a major highlight of the album, for their offering a regional outlook to it.
