A.R.Rehman.. the one thing that most aptly distinguishes him from the other music directors is his superior use of voices. In this album, although it is still recommended, he fails in one or two aspects. First and foremost, if you are gushing about the Adnan Sami song.. all of us who have heard the original south Indian version in either telugu, tamil or both... are cursing Adnan sami.. coz the essence rehman captured with the song is lost in hindi... Adnan’s voice might grow on you... Iam hoping it will.. coz it would not do the song enough justice otherwise...
And then if you watch the original maniratnam video you’l be stumped.. dont know how far saathiya will go in trying to recreate the film as was originally made... but as far as the music goes.. though the songs are fine they dont capture the same effect that they created in the south indian films...
Then there is the O’ humdum suniyo re track.. I personally felt this came out best in the telugu version but it does good in all three languages coz it has a peppy beat and a nice rythm and a universal appeal to it.
The rest of the songs in saathiya are not much to write home about.. but the rehman number is pretty good.. though it might take a while to grow on you too... then the asha bhosle song.. these might sound fresh and appealing.. but they are not the songs you will remember forever..
If only Adnan had not sung the Udi Udi song... and if only better justice was done to that song...huh.. no point right? Anyways the rest of the singers fare well.. sonu nigam esp. does a real good job with the title track..
Its not that the songs are bad.. but if you have heard the original versions stick to them.. and if you have’nt .. and if you really just wanna play some music.. get the original versions.. if you really wanna follow the songs.. lyrics and all.. get ’’saathiya’’ and that if you cant understand the lyrics in either telugu or tamil..
