I was so excited to see the next generation of both Kapoor families sizzling on screen......Sonam and Ranbir Raj.....the scion of the RK family, holding up the torch of his forefathers......My theatre owner friend indulged me and gave me the tickets for the first day, morning show...that too on Diwali........I finished most of my family visits and gift giving and speeded towards the theatre to reach on time...the screen opens....and am sitting on the edge with anticipation........but what do I get to see???
Sanjay Leela Bhansali at his maverick best.......what was his concept? What did he want to convey? What did he present at the end of the effort......[beats me....if you know please tell me! ] I went with my friends and in the flurry stepped on the toes of a man sitting beside me and he glared at me as if I had sunk my teeth into him.....and while I was discussing the scenes with my friends my neighbour asked me to hush......well the movie....
The set was an amalgamation of many themes......dreamlike....ethereal......Turkish, Egyptian, Harry potter like castle, Venice like gondolas., don’t miss the Monalisa curtain.......muted candlelight, then electrical poles with lamps too.....the whole movie is filmed during night time...no place for the sunlight except for the one scene when Sakina wakes up beside Emaan....There is no time zone or era for the film[Rani says it is dreamland...so...:)].......but there are ball point pens and snailmail......they say OK...Bye! Too...like the Gen X.
I don’t want to reveal the story here...coz many movie buffs will watch it even if I say no......so let me go on with the characters.....Rani Mukherjee is a hooker dressed like Mumtaz, Asha Parekh and talks fundoo English, dances like the yesteryear heroines too...waste of wonderful talent.......I must say.....Sonam......takes after her mom rather than her goodlooking dad....and acts like Gracy Singh......or a Vidya Balan......but falls short somewhere.....Zohra Sehgal was at her vivacious best........Salman Khan, Sanjay’s lucky mascot is a brooding and tough lover.....looking like a terrorist........and last but never so the least...the only saving grace of the movie is Ranbir Raj Kapoor..........who is gonna rock the screen with his chocolate looks and his well sculptured body....exposed almost completely in the song....well he looked hotter than Sonam!! I could hear many girls hearts were going thump thump in the theatre....while he was teasing with his towel......He is a good dancer, comic timing is good too.....acting was good too....a real good find for Bollywood.....completion for Hrithik for sure.....
The fairy tale did not have an ending like we anticipate and when the curtains were coming down I was still sitting in anticipation for more.....then my friend shook my shoulder and said....’Harjeet, the movie is over....let’s go....and I was like...’It can’t be, this is not how it should end’...But then.....that was a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film............expect the unexpected!! Didn’t live up to my expectations at all :(
P.S.......I know you will all see it anyways....so happy viewing and please share your thoughts......am no movie buff.....but was tempted by Sanjay’s credentials!!
