Saawariya is a musical fairy tale that has a teeny tiny tale in it and two fairies.
Rani
as Gulabji is excellent. I loved her seasoned acting, glamorous
costumes and intense, super expressive eyes. Even the Rakhi Sawantish
accent was cool.
Sonam Kapoor the other fairy, urgently needs to
enroll for acting workshops. ASAP, if she wants to continue her career
as a heroine in this industry. She has only three expressions -sad,
giggle-ly and deadpan- and she uses them mechanically one after the
other. A lot of pancake and some cool brushwork have made her look
quite alluring, though. And Sonam has beautiful hair- she should model
for hair oil and shampoos.
Ranbir Kapoor is gooood with a delicious
body and a funny retard look at times. I know some girls will kill me
for saying this, but I feel his face is too much like his mother(Love
neetu singh, she is one of the prettiest actors in the Industry),
girlie almost. He dances extremely well but ends up looking gawky from
some angles, probably because he is kinda lanky and tall. He can act
though, and tries to carry off Sanjay Leela Bhansalis poetry on
celluloid, on his young shoulders. He has amazing talent and the
generations of acting in his genes shines through. For a newcomer he
has surpassed all expectations.
SLBs ode to the metrosexual man - the white towel song was something. Men have had enough of women in towels and wet white saris, now its our turn. So ladies and gay guys sit back and enjoy Jab se tere naina. The songs inSaawariya are beautiful- the soulful lyrics, lilting music make up for the slack and slow screenplay.
Bhansalis
blue toy town sucks. The sets look extremely artificial- like in
theaters and college plays. The animated toy train(reminded me of
Harry Potters Hogwarts Express) scene looks childish and fake. The
paintings used all over the movie were visually appealing but I believe
Omang Kumar and his wife could have done better.
There are some
scenes in the movie that are nice- The scene that uses mirrors and
reflections is well shot and looks beautiful. Carpet beating scene is
pretty and the shots with the spiral staircases look very impressive.
Enigmatic Salman and Sonam have some pretty neat scenes too. Salman
walks in and out of the movie in his usual sauve and stylish way.
Blink, and youll almost miss him.
Zohra Sehgal is as endearing as ever. I felt like reaching out and hugging Liliipop- dark red lipstick and red nails et al.
The
film however fails to hold the interest of the audience. We watched the
movie on the First day itself and while leaving the theater we got to
hear comments likebakwas picture haiarre paise wapas karostory
hi nahi etc etc.
White Nights is a beautiful story but trying to recreate it for Hindi movie goers was a mistake, I feel.
SLB must be feeling quite blue after the release of this movie.
Okay Bye, box office!
