The temple is the main attraction which is situated in the heart of of the forest. The is inhabited by lots of wild animals like tiger, elephant, wild pigs, monkeys etc. The temple is closed for a part of the year and for some special occasions for few weeks. The temple opens mainly in the month of January and closes in the middle of the month february. The makaravilak marks the end of the mandala kalam ( a particular period to visit the sabarimala temple) . The accommodation facilities in sabarimala is very bad because during the active season the amount of people visiting the temple is near 1 million and it increases according to the speciality of the days. There are no hotels for staying but people used to sleep in the open which not every safe because of constant threat from wild animals. The devotees are not usually reported to be attacked by the animals. But it is not hundred percent sure of safety. The main transportation system which is cheap and good is the special service by the government transport department ( KSRTC) which is a great help for so many people.
