Boring and Dragging.......

In an attempt to make a movie entertaining, sometimes directors choose a wrong script. ’’Sachein’’ is one such mediocre movie which has nothing new to offer. Iam doing a critical review and so vijay fans please forgive me if this review hurts you. It is not intentional but I really could not bear this movie. It was so boring and dragging and is nowhere near Kushi(coz people told me that this is kushi-2).

The Story

The movie actually doesn’t have a proper story. It looks more like a series of anecdotes. It is somewhat similar to the story of ’’Kushi’’ but is nowhere near that blockbuster. The movie starts with a basketball match for girls in which Shalini (Genelia) plays, and the entire college is mad about her. There is one guy who comes and proposes Shalini but she rejects him stating that she doesn’t even know him properly and it is just a ’’Fatal Attraction’’. One day, Sachein (Vijay) sees Shalini near the market and starts liking her. Next day he happens to bump into Shalini again and here his introduction to Shalini is given by Ayyasamy (Vadivelu) who praises Shalini as ’’Beauty Queen’’ blah blah. But Sachien doesn’t even bother to take a look at her and starts avoiding her. This irritates Shalini but Sachien doesn’t leave her. One day while playing cricket, Shalini is surrounded by some gundas and Sachein saves her from their clutches in style (he says that he will smash all the gundas before the clock ticks 12 times!!!??? and even succeeds..ooff!!) and I think Shalini starts liking him here (I wasn’t sure what was happening..). There is another guy in the college who makes a master plan and writes ’’Sachein Loves Shalini’’ on the college walls. Shalini is made to believe that Sachein did this but the latter rejects this blame and tells Shalini that he will never do something like this. But at the same time, he tells Shalini that the words on the wall are true and that he likes her. Shalini says the same dialogue which she said to the guy initially and then Sachein challenges Shalini that he will make her love him in 30 days. Does Sachein win the challenge or whether Shalini gives up her ego is told in a boring and a snail-paced screenplay.

Performances

Vijay and Genelia are the saving grace in the movie. Vijay is good in the romantic role but still the screenplay is the big culprit which lets him down bigtime. He was in terrific form in Kushi and Ghilli was a feather in his cap. But about this movie, I would rate his performance as average. Is this the same girl who acted in ’’Boys’’? Genelia looks really cute and is stunningly beautiful in some scenes, and even performs well in some scenes. But I had a feeling that her dialogue delivery was improper unlike ’’Boys’’ where she was awesome in her performance. Actually the movie should have been named ’’Shut Up Sachein’’ because she keeps on telling this innumerable times in the movie. Vadivelu as Ayyasamy is fantastic. He is terrific in his comic delivery. I don’t know what Bipasha Basu was doing in the movie. She comes from nowhere and leaves abruptly. Her role is not justified properly in the movie and the scenes involving her doesn’t look authentic. Raghuvaran, in a brief role as Sachein’s father and who brings the so-called twist in the story, doesn’t leave a mark at all. The others in the cast are okay.

Music by Devi sri Prasad is not very good but the ’’vaadi vaadi’’ song rendered by Vijay himself and ’’Kanmodi thirakkumbothu song’’ are the pick of the lots. The cinematography by Jeeva in the movie is brilliant but why so much smoke everywhere yaar? Starting from the airport to the college auditorium, there is smoke smoke everywhere. Even though it is a hill station, this justification was too much. Director John should have laced some interesting moments in the movie to make it engaging. But he falters somewhere and messes it up. The ego clash is a straight lift from Kushi.

Verdict

I would give 5.5 out of 10 for this movie and if you are Illayathalapathy’s fan then you can definitely watch it. Otherwise skip it.
