Sorry Amrita, but I think I differ from your view on Sachin. He is treated like God in India not because he has some magical powers but because he has proved himself to be someone who is very different over the years. His clean image precedes him. He may have been caught by the camera doing something which he should’nt have done but that does not mean that he was tampering the ball. Some things are done without thinking and this was the case here. Can anyone tell me what he will gain by damaging the ball when he can make the opponents cry by punitive stroke of his bat. Even the referee clarified later that he had not accused Sachin of ball tampering. It was just a case of ’forgetting’ the rules for which he could have been more sensibly punished.
