SAHEB stars= anil kapoor, Amrita singh, raakhe, utpal dutt, devan varma.
Saheb was big hit in the 80’s one of major success films of anil kapoor, right after anil was riding high on the success of his film mashaal which, he had won a best supporting award for, saheb is a movie you can watch anyday, with your family. In where today movies like these are hardly to come out.
Mr. sharma(utpal dutt) lives with his four sons ( biswajeet, dilip dhawan, anil kapoor, I don’t know the name of the 4th son) and younger daughter geeta. Only the youngest son saheb (anil kapoor) and geeta are unmarried. Mr sharma arranges his daughters marriage with a man who will be relocating to uk, london. Now the expenses of the marriage will be at least 50, 000 rupees, will even to go to the extent of selling their house. None of the older brothers have any means of coming up with this kind of money for the expenses and two them even make a plan with their wives to take over the house.
saheb(anil kapoor) is unemployed, uneducated and his only interest is playing fottball and hoping to join the national team one day, because he is that good. saheb is very close to his bhabhi sujata(raakhe) and falls in love with nikki (amrita singh) who is a niece of his neibhor devan varma.
Mr sharma attempts to raise the money in vain. When nothing works out, saheb makes a sacrifice for the whole family, because he doesn’t want his family to split up even though his older brothers aren’t very fond of him.
ONe day saheb comes across an ad in the newspaper, the ad states that a man is looking for a kidney donor for his son, and he’ll pay any amount of money to the donor to saves his sons life. Saheb decides to donate one of his kidneys to arrange money for his sisters wedding. when saheb goes to meet this guy he asks him for 50 thousand rupees and job in his factory after kidney operation, because now he can’t play football the thing he had dreamed of since childhood.
Saheb brings the money to his dad, and his dad believes that it’s stolen money, saheb has to lie where he got the money from. on the marriage days saheb has to have his kidney donate, so he lies to his dad again and tells him that he has football game where he could make the national team, his dad lets him go. The family finds out after the marriage what saheb has done for them.
Direction by anil ganguly is good I think his second hit movie, first was kora kagaz with jaya bhaduri. In the first half the movie has jokes between anil kapoor and amrita singh, which are pretty funny. ( watch anil and amrita in film chameli ki shaadi). The second half of the move is very sad The emotions are brilliantly portrayed.
The soundtrack isn’t good found one song to be okay.
Performances- The movie belongs to anil kapoor one of his finest performances ever, He is succesfull is portraying the image of a youngman who loves his family and can do anything for them. Utpal dutt as always is brilliant and gives one of his best performances as well. Raakhe is outstanding also, thank god she didn’t do what she did in the film karan arjun. Amrita singh gives her a very good performance funny and emotional. This movie is not to be missed.
