Wake up to some great ghazals

Saher - dawn/ morning.

Well this album is indeed as beautiful as the charm of the sunrise.

The dawn marks a fresh beginning and a new day to look forward to. Its emits a wondrous charm and takes you into a mood of love and joy. Likewise for this album.

The album, like any other natural beauty, has to be felt by one’s own self to savour it, and once you do so, you are all immersed in its serene bliss. Saher, composed by the Maestro, is a wonderful compilation of 8 amazing tracks. Each depicting a situation, a state of human emotion in its unique way.

Let me get going with the individual tracks in order of my choice:

Tere aane ki jab khabar mahke,

teri khusboo se sara ghar mahke

Rating: 5/5

Its only the presence of the beloved that can make a lover happy. Its a positive way of saying that everything is incomplete without her being there. The whole mood, the whole scene changes with the arrival of that one special person. The emotion is wonderfully captured in the ghazal written by Dr. Nawaz Dewbandi. Sung in Jagjit’s aesthetical voice, the song is a gem.

’’yaad aaye to dil munnawar ho, deed ho jaye to nazar mehke’’ - my heart radiates as it thinks of you, my eyes glow when they see you.

Tere baare mein jab socha nahin tha,

main tanha tha magar itna nahin tha

Rating: 5/5

Love is not always all joy. Along with it comes the sadness of separation, the anguish when one is not able to be with his beloved. When you have found a true love and then are not able to be with the person, it is a real sad lonely feeling that takes over you. Jagjit’s voice does full justification to this wonderful song. It is just a must listen for any ghazal lover.

’’samandar ne mujhe pyasa hi rakha

main sab sehra mein tha, pyasa nahin tha’’

Mujhse bichad ke khush rehte ho,

meri tarah tum bhi joothe ho

Rating: 4.5/5

Isnt’ this title line amazing??

Jagjit’s voice here is great as usual, but its more of the simplicity and beauty of lyrics that catches you. How well said. Yes people do try to keep a smile on the face, but its only when you notice their heart within, that you realise the hurt of separation. All the stanzas in the song are amazing and you picturise and float around in your world of imagination. Amazingly simple, yet beautiful https://lyrics.

’’ek tahni par chaad tika tha,

maine samjha tum baithe ho’’

Charag-e-ishq jalaane ki raat aayi hai

kisi ko apna banane ki raat aayi hai

Rating: 4.5/5

The realisation of loneliness. The substantiation of the feeling that a partner is needed. Listen to it in solitude and jagjit shall kindle in you that feeling of love that is seeking out for the companionship of that lover. His voice floats as he sings

“wo aaj aaye hain mehfil mein chaandni lekar,

ke roshni mein nahane ki raat aayi hai”

Yaad nahin kya kya dekha tha saare manzar bhool gaye,

uski galiyon se jab laute apna bhi ghar bhool gaye

Rating: 4/5

A person overwhelmed by the feeling of love. Jagjit smoothly plays the feeling out here of a person all immersed in the love. Listen to his voice in a quiet room to get the real feel of it. Lyrics are a bit complex and need to be pondered upon., heard a few times before you realise the essence , the depth they convey

’’tujko bhi jab apni kasme apne waade yaad nahin

hum bhi apne khwab teri aankhon mein rakhkar bhool gaye’’ .. leave this to your interpretation. listen to it first!

Kitni pee, kaise kati raat mujhe hosh nahin,

raat ke saath gayi baat mujhe hosh nahin

Rating: 4/5

Alcohol has been the traditional refuge of a heart-broken person. Jagjit has always been good at conveying the pain through his voice. This ghazal by Rahat Indori uses some Anand Bakshi-like rhyme scheme, but nevertheless effectively conveys the pain of someone facing the sadness that his love is no longer there for him

’’ansoon aur sharab mein guzar hai ab to,

maine kab dekhi thi barsaat mujhe hosh nahin”

Tumne dil ki baat kehdi aaj ye achha hua,

hum tumhe apna samajhte the, bada dhoka hua

Rating: 3.5/5

There are varied emotions when one is one love. Joy, sadness, pains, caring, dependence, .. Ghazals are perhaps an apposite way to depicting them. Jagjit’s voice is well suited. Feel the tune, the raag could have been a bit better. Nevertheless, you wont regret adding this to your collection.

“aapki aankhon mein ansoo kahan se aa gaye?

hum to deewaane hain lekin aapko ye kya hua”

Yeh jo zindagi ki kitaab hai, yeh kitaab bhi kya kitaab hai

kahin ek haseen-sa khwaab hai, kahin jaan-leva ajaab hai

Rating: 3/5

Well firstly, three is not a bad rating!

A philosophical song on different facets of life. Not usual Jagjit-kind ghazal that you may expect, probably not one which fits in this album. It still is a good song, though not much repetitive value.

“kahin aansuon ki hai daastan, kahin muskurahaton ka bayaan,

kahin barkaton ki hai baarishen, kahin trishagni behisaab hai”

Folks, esp Jagjit fans, this album is one that must to be added to your collection. It arouses the love within you and invokes all emotions associated with it. Soothing music, amazing lyrics, situational ghazals and Jagjit’s voice singing them. Go and grab it. Treasure it.
