A couple of months ago I watched ‘Spotlight’ and the last scene of the movie sent shivers down my spine; leaving me ‘terribly’ yet ‘beautifully’ disturbed. Today, I experienced a déjà vu! Sairat comes across as a beautiful love story that introduces a three-faced coin – one that shows us three sides; the good, the bad, and the third side that goes beyond the boundary of the conventional norms.
The movie begins with a cricket match between two local teams in ‘Bittergaon’, a village in Maharashtra, where the part-time commentator(Nagraj Manjule, the director of the movie) – the who guy is a barber by profession tries his best to commentate while introducing the political dignitaries that grace the occasion. Although clichéd, the typical Marathi two-liners certainly leave you in splits and the characters begin to establish their identities – hinting the next hour would be entertaining. And that’s exactly what happens!
The three-our tale could easily be seen as two movies: a one-and-a-half-hour commercial comedy and the other half being a drama film. Having said so, I would definitely recommend you to watch Sairat – this one will leave you spellbound!
