Salaam...Namaste

When I heard the name of the movie I thought it might be another Veer- Zaara. I mean just listening to the name of the movie- Salaam..Namaste. But little did I know that it had nothing to do with what I was expecting. It wasn’t later until I saw the promos of the film that I realized what it might be about. I was really looking forward to watching the movie as everything about it seemed pretty high-standard. The banner of YashRaj films, the actors and the music compositions. And I guess that it was a pretty good movie. Not really like a typical Yashraj movie but still it was worth watching. I enjoyed watching the movie and would have to say that at some parts it got me thinking. I won’t say about what but I mean the discussion on it could be never-ending. Basically based on what the story is about. There’s a girl, there’s a guy, both of them fall in love and than what happens next is what the whole movie’s about. I mean like in a situation like that who would be to blame. The girl, the guy, the situation their in, how they got there or is their kismat just to blame. You won’t really understand what I mean until you actually watch the movie.

Salaam Namaste- Takes place in Australia where Aamber(Preity Zinta)works as a RJ at a radio station called ’’Salaam Namaste.’’ She is a independant girl that lives alone in australia and is working at Salaam Namaste to save money to continue her studies to become a surgeon. She has a very ’’haat-ke’’ attitude and she absolutely hates late-comers or people, ’’jinko waqt ki qader nahi hai.’’ And on the other hand Nikhil Arora(Saif Ali Khan), who is a chef has a typical guy attitude and all he can ever be is late. So how they meet is quite a funny thing. Salaam Namaste is a radio station that interviews indians that have achieved something in Australia, so one day Nikhil arora or ’’Nick’’ as he calls himself is called for an interview at the radio station. As ususal he is late for the interview, but little did he know that this time he wouldn’t hear the end of it. Aamber makes a big scene out of the whole issue because she wants him to apologize to her for being late on her show. Anyway so the first time they meet is at a wedding. Nikhil takes a look at her and falls in love with her;in other words love at first sight. He introduces himself to Aamber and that’s how they become friends. Though he lies to her about who he really is by the end of their first meeting the truth is spilled. They meet again and again and Nick decides that he wants to live with Aamber. So he tells her about his idea and she’s taken back by the offer he’s giving her, but he explains that they’ll live in different rooms and it’s only to get to know eachother better. Eventually Aamber gives in to the idea and they set out to find a place to live. The scenes in which they come in contact with the house owner(Javed Jafari) are hilarious. At first it all starts out pretty well and they begin to understand eachother and now even Aamber is beginning to feel stronger about Nick.

Two months later- Aamber finds out she is pregnant. That is where the whole controversary starts. Nick doesn’t want the kid as he hates kids and he wants Aamber to abort it but Aamber defiently wants to keep the kid as she really loves kids. But she agrees and decides to go and get the abortion done because even she thinks that right now is not the right time. But you can say that the moment comes and goes. She doesn’t go through with the abortion. And shortly after that their relation sort of goes down the drain. Though they continue living togather they don’t have any sort of interaction left. Through the time of Aamber’s pregnancy lots happens and Nikhil eventually sees her from a different point of view. They end up getting married. And at the end it all ends Happily ever after..........

Arshad Warsi as Ron had a fairly small role but he played it well. Jugal Hansraj as Jignesh also had a small role but he carried it out nicely. Abhisheik Bachan as the docter..I don’t even know what to say. Though it might have been funny I thought it was just extra. Overall this movie is worth watching once.
