Having just moved to Hyderabad, visiting the Salarjung Museum was number one on my priority list. I have visited it twice, one in March and the second time in July this year.
The museum is really very clean and well maintained.The staff is polite and helpful. I had visited the place with a senior citizen who required a wheelchair. This was available at the museum and it was really convenient to go around using this.
On the exhibits- all perfectly maintained with writeups that are informative; however it is very factual and dry. It is difficult to sustain interest in it. A museum should according to me, generate interest in the subject and develop a connect with the lay man or student to help realise the need to know about the past.
It is a great museum but I think it needs to be revived with some better presentation. For example - a short and lively presentation with information on the history of the place.
The captioning/content can also be repackaged with lesser known facts, interesting tidbits etc. While these may seem gimmicky, this draws in people and helps establish the connect with our country’s great history.This is especially important for the younger generation.All in all, a great place but scope for improvement to reignite interest in history.
