The first site I visit when I log on to internet is Samachar.com (even before MS...). This website is a news website as the name suggests. There are a number of news websites on the web but this one is the best in my opinion. This website compiles the headlines from all the major newspapers and give them at one place. So, you don’t need to go to individual news sites to read the news. All the news are in the form of hyperlinks, so which ever item you are interested in, click on it and read the details. It saves you a lot of time. You don’t need to go to individual websites like timesofindia.com, indian-express.com to read the news. Everything is present at one place.
The design of the website is excellent. The news is divided into various sections. On the top there is National News from all the major newspapers, followed by the Business News sections. Then come Sports, World News, World Business News, World Sports News and Tech. News in that order. So one can read all the headlines of individual sections by just scrolling. This saves you from loading different pages for different sections as it happens on other news websites, which is really very painful esp. with a dialup connection.
It also contains links to several other websites like a number of local newspapers divided in regions, different magazines, government websites, entertainment, games, food, jobs, travel, technology, matrimonial.
Last but not the least, even the advertisements are very useful especially for people abroad. They give you links to different sites from where you can buy phone cards at cheap rates, sites to send money to India etc.
The only problem I face with this site is that it loads very slowly esp. on a dialup.
Overall, it is a comprehensive website catering to the needs of everyone.
