I owned the Samsung 540N monitor which I purchased around 4 years ago. When it was within the warranty period it had an intermittent display, used to go ON and OFF at times. The technician who visited us told us that it maybe due to moisture etc, this problem will vanish. Nothing of that sort happened, the problem used to re-occur at times but I didnt pay importance since it was intermittent.
After the warranty expired, the problem became acute. The display comes for the first 3-4 seconds after switch on and then vanishes. The monitor has to be switched off and on again for it to show up a display for another 3 seconds. We complained to the Service Department who promptly sent the technician who told us that it will cost us Rs.5106 to repair the old monitor as the panel is defective and had to be replaced. He also charged an Estimate charge of Rs.85 for which I was not provided any bill even though I insisted on a bill. I was told by the service department that for small amounts, a bill is not provided. I wonder how such unaccounted money is shown in the company’s audit.
The cost of a new monitor is approx Rs.4000 - Rs.4500 but Samsung charges Rs.5106 to repair a 4 year old monitor. I fail to see any logic in this. Moral of the story never buy a Samsung product unless you have money to waste.
