Samsung Corby Speed ( Cdma )

I have been a Reliance customer since past 6-7 years and wanted to continue with them since they have amazing coverage and clarity and also amazing price after the Reliance Simple Plan was launched.

The first cdma handset I started was the old reliance lg handset after which I switched to Nokia look alike of . After which I switched to Nokia 6265 which was one of the most amazing pieces in CDMA with slider. After I lost that mobile I took a 6275i which was with me for past 3 years.

I basically wanted to change my handset because of below reasons.

  1. I was bored using the same handset

  2. The battery was pretty lost case and lasted only 1 hour talk time and 1 day standby

  3. The phone did not support any SNS

  4. The screen was too small to browse the internet

I too was pretty apprehensive because of the name Samsung but then took a few suggestions from people who had taken this handset and finally decided to go for it. I took it from Sangeetha Store in Banaglore forum who gave this to me for 8800 and a free OMH sim card. I find it pretty satisfactory except for a few things which I suppose and hope should improve in some time both from Samsung and Reliance

Aesthetics and body

Pros

  1. The phone comes in regular Corby style but only with 3 covers( black, yellow and white).

  2. The touch screen is large enough and one can see large fonts and images with the phone.

  3. The shape is ergonomic and stylish and comes in look similar to htc business phone

  4. The speaker is located at the back and has decent enough sound to wake you up

  5. The leather pouch comes in Yellow and Black with is cool and flashy

Cons

  1. Yellow color maybe cool for youth but I would have suggested them with Blue or Grey to be more subtle

  2. The glossy finish is very delicate and one can get scratches even with a nail on it( unlike Nokia). I got 2 scratches within first 1 week when I put it without cover in my car for charging while driving

3.The charging and headphone port is one and the same which is a bit of inconvenient

  1. There is no stylus with this phone though one is not needed but could be better if they could have given one

  2. No auto orientation when you rotate the phone. You have to manually press the button and go in landscape or portrait mode.

  3. You have to switch to OMH sim card in case you want to use MMS, browse net and use all features of internet related activities

Usability

Pros

  1. This phone is easy to use if you are used to Samsung User interface

  2. Feature of photo contact and dialing is good

  3. The recent logs in term of msgs, incoming, outgoing, missed calls etc can be used with one button itself

  4. The phone gave me a solid talk talk time of around 200 min without issue and the best part is without getting hot( which is rare for a CDMA phone)

  5. The phone had a decent stand by time of 3 days even with the screen being large and the vibration capacity being strong

Cons

  1. The phone does not support Bluetooth really good. One can not have an auto answer on the bluetooth and thus has to manually push the bluetooth button to answer the call which might be dangerous in case of driving

  2. While using the bluetooth even in regular office  if you push the cell picking up button it will pick up the call in regular phone mode and then you have to switch to bluetooth mode.

  3. If you have a call waiting and you want to cancel or reject the other call you can not do so it will automatically pick that waiting call and cancel the current call

  4. The contacts can be synchronized using outlook for this phone but not the calendar and other reminders for birthday etc. So in case you are switching from Nokia to this phone you will have to manually enter birthdays and anniversary’s again.

Features
Pros

  1. Nice SNS( Social networking Sites) widgets to browse for

  2. Classic internet connectivity even browsing on the phone and when you connect as broadband modem to the PC/ Laptop

  3. You can see the web page clearly and exactly the same as you would see on the PC screen

  4. Decent sound quality, FM and music playing backup in case you are not very picky on the boom and woofer style.

5.Qwerty/Normal keypad options

  1. Camera has multiple options like background, color scheme etc

  2. One can maintain 3 screen wallpapers at same time and can change it with just a touch and slide

Cons

  1. One can not add more applications on the phone( Nothing specified from Reliance of Samsung till now)

  2. Camera quality is not good. Not even 2 MP I feel. No flash

  3. One can not see videos clearly, quality of video watching is not good.

  4. To upload videos one needs to use Samsung PC software to convert and upload videos

  5. Configuring of emails is very tedious. I still have not been able to configure Gmail on this. IF ANYONE KNOWS PLEASE LET ME KNOW

  6. The qwerty keypad buttons are so small you well need a stylus to actually touch and use them and there is no landscape orientation for qwerty so one had to use only in portrait mode which is really not so user friendly.

Overall

  1. Nice to use phone, stylish and flashy makes a statement

  2. Touch phone so with the latest trend

  3. Delicate body

  4. Good in case you need a phone with cdma, touch, browsing features and SNS

  5. Applications can not be loaded

  6. Recommended for youth but not for Business users

  7. Samsung could have done loads with this and riden to the wave of cor
