I have been using the Corby Pro for almost two months now and just love the features.
First thing you need to do on buying the phone is removing the protective cover that comes with it. It is better to use a scratch guard instead. The phone comes with a pouch, a 2GB memory card, earphones and three different battery covers - 2 in white and one black. The earphones are not all that comfortable as they are in-ear earphones.
I was using a Samsung phone for the first time and being a Nokia user for the last 5 years, I had some difficulty getting adjusted to the features. The touch screen response is very good and need not be tapped very hard- a soft touch would do. First time users may have difficulty navigating through the phone as scrolling sometimes activates the features. I took a day to get adjusted to scrolling through the widgets and menu without activating some app!
Messaging: The memory for storing messages is huge! The phone can store almost 1300 messages. A good feature here is your exchanges with a particular user can be viewed in “Conversations”. For typing messages you can use either the on-screen keypad or just slide out the QWERTY pad. I find the latter option more comfortable.
Phonebook: The phonebook can store up to 2000 entries. You can also use photos for your contacts. One thing about the phonebook I didn’t like was that scrolling through it is either too fast or too slow. It is best to search for the contact using the search box or scroll using the Volume up/down buttons.
Sound Reception is very good during calls but one bad part is the screen locks itself as soon as you press the call button. To access the call features, you gotta unlock the screen again!
Now coming to the Stand by screen- It has Widgets on the left which can be seen by simply tapping on the screen. There are three screens for the home page and you can go to another page if one is full of widgets. Separate wallpapers can be set for each page. You can always download widgets if you want but then there are very limited widgets available for download. Like, I wanted a widget for “Bluetooth” but it was simply unavailable.
The Menu also has three pages and you can always rearrange the apps in any order you like.
The camera could have been better- It is 3.2 MP alrite but doesn’t have flash. Overall usage is satisfactory. The phone has a built-in accelerometer which senses the position you are holding it in and changes the images from Landscape to Portrait automatically(and vice-versa). The image editing tools are also good with the usual features(Like Crop, Sepia, etc.).
Apart from the basic features, the phone has a media player and radio which are easy to use. The radio though runs only when the earphones are plugged in.
Social Networking is also very good with dedicated apps for Facebook and MySpace! The in built Dolphin browser is good but quite slow in comparison to the Opera Mini(usage drains the battery quite fast).
The pre-installed games are all unfortunately demo versions but you can always download more if you want. Apart from the above features the phone has the usual Bluetooth, Alarms, Dictionary, Voice Recorder, Calendar, Tasks, Calculator, World Clock, Converter, Stopwatch and timer.
Now, here are the One other thing is some users may feel that the phone is too bulky and fat. Here’s the biggest minus point of the Corby Pro(I noticed this only after a month or so) – Sometimes when you keep multiple widgets or apps open the phone simply reboots! Yes, it switches off and restarts without any warning! I asked one of my friends about this(he has owned a Pro for the last one year) and even he complained of the same problem. I don’t know how many others experienced it, but it surely is irritating to have your phone restart every now and then! I can only hope that this doesn’t happen regularly.!
