Samsung created the D500 and won the mobile phone of the year award in 2005. The follow up to D500 was the D 600 which lacked the sex appeal but did come with an memory expansion slot. D500 was one of the best phones I had used its strengths being
Small Size
Fantastic feel of the sliding mechanism
Fantastic call clarity (uses a proprietary Samsung technology to give crystal clear sound when you use the phone)
Great display (262 K color the best in business)
90 MB of memory (a phone is a phone and an ipod is an ipod dont get confused between the two!)
2 MP camera (a phone is a phone not a digital camera, this is good for the naughty pics only)
Before you get confused in my love affair with the D500 let me get to the D 800. Samsung is one organization I have learnt to respect from utter disaster in design and product quality to the brilliance that their products exihibit today will be a good B School case study. The D 800 is a labour of love ( or should I say razor hate). I can almost visualize a short stocky korean (remember Odd Job from the Bond Flick Goldfinger) in a meeting room in Seoul, shouting at his team to kill the motorola Razr brigade. Get me the Razr killer you fools, get to the drawing board, give me slim..... and lobehold D800 appears. This one looks sexy, definitely sexy... The black color with chrome covered sides will give other phones the Hee bee djee bees for some time. You will certainly get popular with this one. It brings the magic of D500 back certainly.
Lets get to the pros first:
Fantastic slim body
Great Slider Mechanism
Great Bright Display (nothing better in the market place)
Simple Menu navigation
Supports Bluetooth 1.2
Supports Stereo Headset profile
EDGE ready
Triband Radio (almost the whole world is covered)
90 MB of storage (about 20 MP3 songs)
1.2 MP camera with flash (you wont miss the 2 MP here I am sure)
Good Battery life (charge every other day)
Games and Downloads from https://samsungmobile.com
Java application support
Great world clock application
MP3 ring tones supported
1000 Contacts and 200 SMS can be stored on phone
TV out function (watch your pics on TV through a cable)
Pixsel View (samsung document viewer, useful application)
Killer Feature : Built in Voice Dial for your contacts : No training required ( yes none required) => just say dial my darling to speak to your loved one (major reason to buy this one)
Lets now look at some Cons:
Slim in Razr meant a no feel good keypad, Samsung maintains the same feel could have done better here
Space for a transflash (where do you buy one ???) or MicroSD would have been great
Screen is large and is susceptible to scratches
The pros far out weigh the cons. The phone is available in grey under 12 K so is a steal..
Check it out and drop those Motos and Nokias for ever.
