I have been a die-hard Nokia fan all my life. Recently smashed my 6100 and decided to pick a cheap piece of another brand just to try out how others have evolved. Samsung E1410 caught my eye for the price. Taxes and all, it cost me 2900!(Didn’t know there were phones in that range after all that inflation talk).
The handset looks simple yet elegant. Not exactly sleek. Available in’dark grey’ and nothing else.
I love Nokia for it’s simplemenu’s. Samsung disappoints here. At least this handset does.(It could just be me - I’m used to Nokia style menus). Unless you know the shortcuts, you need to cross three layers of menus before you can start typing an sms! Contact names can only be 14 charachters. But you can select a menu by the associated number. I liked that.
The best part is you get a 1 GB card. Loads of songs. But what’s funny is you dont get a data cable to copy songs to the cell from a PC. And I couldnt get the cable in the local shops. What do I do with the 1 GB?
Double speakers are another value-for-money feature. The sound is crystal clear and loud enough for talking on a busy street - both on the speaker and the normal ear-piece. Browser works. I could browse some rudimentary web pages, but anything else and you cant make out which side is up. No camera. Radio available and only works when the ear-plugs are plugged in. Only one port for charging and the ear-plug - so you cant play the radio when you are charging. Standard Samsung problem I guess. Bluetooth works, so you can connect those blinking headsets people stuff in their ears to look busy.
All in all, great handset for people who dont feel humiliated on being seen with a value-for-money mobile that does what mobiles were supposed to do in the good old days- allow you to talk and message.
