An avid Samsung E250 admirer here, for it was one look on the net......5 days later, she cradled in my arms.
Its a tough, sturdy phone that packs more than what can be expected from something in its class. My criteria were decent music quality and an okey-dokey Camera. Coming after a year long association with a Nokia 1100. My expectations were high and I would not stand betrayal. The phone has performed brilliantly in the One year that it has been with me. Albeit with a few minor glitches.
All prospective buyers, beware the slider. This is one of the biggest + points in the Samsung E250 set...and is also the single biggest reason for its shame. I learned from our local Samsung service center guy (No...not Bob :) that there is a thin piece of heaven that is stretched every time the slider mechanism is operated (they call it a ’STRIP’) and that once it has reached its final resting place then the replacement is costly...and without it, the phone display does not work. This problem is supposed to persist with all sliders (irrespective of the brands) and that it is inescapable. My concern is that of the few others with phones similar to mine...this problem has occurred and that too, in the warranty period. Moral- Go easy on the slider or else, expect a trip to the ’friendly’ samsung chap soon (his name was Ketan).
Also, me being from Mangalore, where the sun is blinded by the dust (the road repairs and all!!), there is an added problem of dust lodging between the slide panels. This makes for some rough resistance when the panels are stretched, and loss of paint job.....not good for the electronics. Someone wanted me to buy one of those leathery cover for my phone, ya.....I might as well add lip-stick and mascara and be done with it !!
Battery needs recharging twice a day...at full music use. That’s common with everyone though..:)
Also, I dont see why the makers of this marvel did not stretch their einstein-brains enough to realise that making the Music Player working in the background is a good idea. I mean, we have a decent player here, that needs to be restarted everytime a bug tries to disturb you and enya with a call. What a great oversight. Can anyone tell me how to hide the date/time panel on the screen?? It blocks Anushka’s face from uninterrupted view while also being too unimaginative. Maybe bringing it down to the bottom?? Na...that will hurt pamela Lee.
