Before you decide to buy the s5, I urge you to read this review. I’m a tech reviewer and have reviewed most Samsung smartphones over the years. Every year Samsung produces a smartphone which blows away the competitors but not this time. I’m going to list the cons of this phone which everyone should know about before they invest their money on this phone which they are planning to keep for atleast 2-3 years:
1) The Indian version has the exynos 5422 chipset and not the snapdragon 801- this chipset is not optimised to run graphically intensive games and you often see frame rate drops. Also it lacks LTE connectivity.
2) Only 2 GB ram: This shouldn’t be a con for most smartphones as it’s plenty but since Samsung has poorly implemented touchwiz, you get only 300-400 MB of usable ram since most of it is used up by system apps.
3)Lack of 32 GB varient in india: With samsung’s growing features on their phones, you get only 10.7 GB of usable storage on the 16 GB varient. That’s hardly enough for 3 HD games. And trust me, micro sd cards are not reliable as they often get corrupted when you move games on to it.
4) Fingerprint sensor is not very accurate. It has only like a 50% success rate and cannot be done single handedly.
5) Short software upgrade cycle. The release of the galaxy s5 prime will only decrease the s5’s priority for future updates which would be really slow or cancelled completely. Samsung did the same thing to the s3 by not updating it to kitkat.
To conclude, the Indian version of the s5 is not much of an upgrade from the s4 and note 3 and in fact it has taken a step back from the note 3. The only thing the s5 has over these phones are a few software gimmicks. I suggest people not too buy this phone at all since samsung is using this phone as a standby till they release the s5 prime which will be less than a month. Go for the HTC M8 or the xperia z2 as these are premium phones which provide great user experience.
