Hi All. I was planning to replace my nokia phone for a long time. I went through so many reviews across websites and friends. My initial choice was 5800 Xpressmusic. It had touch UI and all features packed at 18 K. Later I came to know about LG Cookie and Samsung Star which had similar features and half the price of Nokia.
I asked some friends, did research in youtube and other cell phone review sites and finally decided on Samsung Star.It took me 2 months to take the decision!
Strong Points
Touchscreen
You can confidently use the touch screen without any hassle and its very easy and intutive. Bluetooth on/off switch is displayed as a switch iitself which can be turned on/off. Scroll can be done with volume key. The phone comes with an attached leather cover to the back which protects the screen which is very innovative and nice. Stylus is of very good quality compared to other phones but is not easy to carry(no provision to carry).Anyways, Stylus is not of much use in this phone.
Battery Backup
Amazing backup of 3.5 days with 6 hours calling, 2 hours music playing, 1 hour messaging and 1/2 hour browsing.Tip: Charge it fully when you plug it in.
Operating System
Im not sure of technicalities of the OS but it works without any hangs like some Nokia N series phones. Its fast and smooth and never shows the wait symbol which is nice.
Applications
The phone has good applications including a good alarm(which works loud and proper). Fullscreen qwert message typing pad.
Looks
The phone looks professional and elegant. It is not sporty like 5800 and not plasticky like Cookie.
Weak Points
Camera
Camera can never be compared to Nokia or Sony Erisson Cybershot. Camera is way too poor for such a feature packed phone. Photos are good of there is enough lighting and there is no flash.
Headphones
Headphones supplied with the set is of cheap quality. Again sony ericsson will score high here.
Overall
This phone is a REAL STAR and it will grab the touch phone market in another year. And Sony, Nokia. Samsung is not far from you. Their products have travelled far from a Nokia dominant world. Samsung phones have come of age and they have started beating the leaders today. My choice explains the story!
Thanks Guys!
