I have been a satisfied user of this phone for over a month now...
I have seen other reviews and all are fine ... Just to summarise, this is a good phone -- light weight, brilliant display, clear audibility on the good side and not so good when it comes to phone to phone communication (especially when it comes to communicating with phones of other makes).
One of the major cons mentioned by everybody is the performance of the IRDA.
I just took pains to visit the Samsung service centre in Chennai to report this.
To my pleasant shock, they said that PIMS File Manager is not the ideal software for connecting this phone to your PC via IRDA port. They supplied me a software called EasyGPRS (ver 2.1.8) and to my delight my lap top and the phone are happy talking to each other !!! Now, with this I am able to control the following on my phone ... (a) maintain my phone book.
(b) maintain my call records.
(c) maintain my schedules on the phone.
(d) Send SMS from the lap top and maintain the SMS boxes !!!
However this software does not allow pictures (128 x 97 pixels) or ring tones to
be transferred to the phone from the lap top. Samsung claim but the biggest image I have been able to transfer to the phone is 32x32 pixels.
If I am asked for a ’’Wishlist’’ by Samsung to enhance the easyGPRS software ,
I would ask for the following ...
(a) Enable easyGPRS software to manage the ’’to do’’ list on the phone and
not just the scheduler.
(b) Enable 128x97 images to be transferred to phone (as they claim to be possible)
(c) Ensure that easyGPRS is available on the net to be downloaded by one and all.
(I did place this request to them when I went there around 3 weeks back!!!)
(d) Provide a feature on the phone to store important personal details in a
password protected place ...
Guys, one final word -- Don’t forget to register your phone on the site https://SAMSUNGMOBILE.COM. Unfortunately, despite my requests, Samsung have
not made easyGPRS software available on this site ...
