Hi Guys,
I needed a 3 mega pixel camera phone, so somebody told me about samsung D900i, actually there are two versions of the phone the old one is D900, the latest one is D900i. The D900i costs about Rs 12000, in the market, it comes with a headset, data cable kit, Software CD, charger, battery. This phone has facility to see the contents when connected to a TV, but there is on TV out cable included in the sales package. The phone is beautiful to hold and use, it is a very european phone and for the fashion conscious. The battery lasts about 1.5 days. I purchased the TV out cable from the grey market for Rs 500. The contents of the phone are displayed on the TV for that the moment you connect the cable to the phone, the phone display blacks out, this display is shown on TV. When viewing the pics taken, the TV display shows a enlarged display of the phone, where as video display is full screen on TV.
I am basically a sony ericsson user, so I find the call quality in this phone very low in comparision to Sony Ericsson. This is the worst drawback I found in this phone, the call quality is wavy, the words of the speaker seem eaten up when you hear on the phone. The speaker quality is good to play songs, but when you put people on the speaker phone there is lot of distortion and the speaker vibrates. In sony ericsson phones the call quality is very constant, it is not wavy, there may be surrounding noise, but you can hear all the words of the caller clearly.
There is no document viewer in this phone only the D900 has that feature. I found the ergonomics of this phone very good, the menus are beautiful, you can use MP3 ringtones, the dictaphone is very good it has a very good sound recorder on board, only the output is not so clear. You can record phone conversations. It has 3 alarms, one daily too. The calendar is well laid out, very easy and pleasant to use.
The camera pics are very good, it has auto focus feature, flash, you can photograph printed matter and it is very readable on screen. This is a very fun phone to use because of its beauty. The games are good to play.
Now for the bad facts of this Phone:
If you want to download themes from the inter net : NOT POSSIBLE
You want to change your message tone : NOT POSSIBLE
Call quality in the phone : VERY POOR
Does it support all music formats : ONLY MP3
Does it support all video formats : only MPEG4, 3GP(Not very qood player)
Does it support all ringtone formats : Only MIDI, MP3
Can you see the naughty MMS(Real Media format): NOT POSSIBLE
My opinion, this phone is for people who want to show off, with the slider and the phone display. But for the guys who are into major downloading of themes, ringtones, wallpapers, games etc SonyEricsson or nokia is the best. There are lot of free themes for Sonyericssson on the internet.
For the guys who lay stress on call quality for long conversations like business/ long distance calls/ discussions, there is nothing like sonyericsson.
Another thing Samsung first introduced slider mechanism for high end phones only, but with the release of E250 model, the slider came down to lower segment of customers, so the slider as a fashion accessory has gone now.
The fact is Samsung D900i is a beautiful phone to possess, but the call quality negates all the jingles and flashy stuff in the phone.
My review is in no way directed to benefit any particular mobile manufacturer, I believe people should get first hand information so that they can invest their hard earned money wisely. Rather than be fooled by advertisements
