Am myself an Industrial Designer, and I have a strong preference for things that are aesthetically pleasing. Samsung R220 is one of those AESTHETICALLY PLEASING products.
One look at it melts you down into buying it. So beautifully designed!! Its blue light is amazing - many more cellphones have similar blue light, but none of them is as pleasing as this one. And if you might stop to think twice - using your brains to check if it is worth buying this one, you will still find this no less than any other phone, say Nokia, or Motorolla.
Look at any Nokia phone, and you find all their phones look the same. A feature here and there....
Well, lets get into details. This one has all functions that are currently in most phones.
CALL RECORDS - missed calls, received calls, dialled calls, call time, call cost, missed calls.
MESSAGES - voice mail, messages, preset messages, picture messages.
TONES - ring tone, melody composer, separate SMS tone, minute minder (it beeps - if set to beep - after every minute when talking, downloadable ringtones
PHONE SETTINGS - All the settings for the phone
ORGANISER - scheduler and alarm, calendar, local time, world time, calculator
GAMES - three games - casino, mole, hexa
WAP - Internet Browsing
PLUS: It has a small LED on the top left. Colors of this LED can be changed - 5 color choices. This LED works as service light, and also is customisable for 5 phone book entries!
Screen savers: 5 animated images to act as screensavers.
AND HERE ARE MY OBSERVATIONS: Things like calculator on the cellphone are difficult to use. I never use it - also because most of the times I have a better alternative for calculating than a cellphone. Probably I would use it if this was the only alternative.
WAP is accessible by just clicking one button. So easy!
By just one key, you can put the phone to silent mode - vibration only mode, when you enter into a meeting or a cinema hall.
For SMS, it has T9 mode (Text by 9 keys) for text entry. This makes life much much easier, and you dont need to use those shorthand type SMS language!! For more details, you can see the website https://t9.com One wish though - the custom entries into the T9 dictionary get erased once the phone is switched OFF. This is bad! But it wont bug you too much!!
Phonebook: It has memory for 100 entries. Also, nowadays, even SIM cards give you additional memory of 100+ entries. And believe me, this is more than one would need!
GAMES are playable for killing time when you have nothing to do in transit. Game addicts might want more games....its all very subjective.
One point though - the ringtone volume of this phone is low. Even the highest volume tone cannot match the volume of - say Siemens phones. So this is a drawback when new to cellphones. Once you are used to having a cellphone, probably you will be able to hear even its whispering beeps!!
Battery life - is good. The battery is Lithium Ion, one of the best batteries so far for cellphones. Cant specify in hours though - my usage is not high end, and I need to charge my cellphone once in two days only.
