Well the phone Samsung T-100 is indeed a nice phone and has good looks. But I don’t know why I fell that there are surely some major changes Samsung needs to make in its software. After all the basic purpose of a cell phone is to serve telephony with all the stats. And if a phone company emphasises more on the looks and fancy rather then the actual purpose then its not done.
The positives of this model are light weight, good looking, has polyphonic tunes and colour screens. Other things like WAP, currency calculator, 32K SIM compatibility etc. are probably met in any cheap mobile phone these days.
My own experience for Samsung T-100 says that it first off all lacks non-polyphonic tunes. I mean the polyphonic ring tones are although good to hear but imagine when you are sitting in the mid of a meeting and the phone starts ringing, so load as if you a re playing an mp3 is quite thwarting and embarrassing. None of the Samsung software provides vibration and ring tone together. Although there is a menu option that allows you to do so. But when you set that option to ‘ON’ and you receive a call, it starts ringing loudly for the first 10 sec and then goes on the vibration mode for the next 10 sec. I don’t understand why is that?
It keeps playing the SMS tone every 30 seconds till you read the SMS. So no wonder if you are sleeping, and midnight you receive a SMS and the phone is lying away from your bed, you need to get up from your bed read the SMS and close the damn shutter back. There is no way to switch off this repetitive SMS ringing.
If you look at the calls log that it holds, if you receive a call from the same number 10 times then it will hold the same number 10 times and erase other received call numbers from the log. There shouldn’t be really be a repetition of the same number in the log. So many times we have to trace the number from where we received the call on some date in past. But it just keeps adding the same number from where you receive calls more often and therefore you loose data. And it also applies to dialled calls and missed calls log. This is very infuriating at times.
The phone doesn’t support tri-band, and has a beautiful colour screen but without a camera. Actually how long can you keep playing with changing the screen savers and stuff’s. The newer model of Samsung V200 has that support and is priced the same as T-100 was 3 months back when I bought it in England.
It dose not have a GPRS modem support as well. This means that there is no infrared connectivity for the phone to manage the phonebook and read/write sms from the computer. Which any basic phone like Nokia 8310 provides.
In a nut shell today(since it’s price has come down) if one wants fancy looking phone without much of spending, bothering to the tech stats, it is a good phone to go for. After all every thing depends on the PURPOSE.
U know what I mean….
