I bought Samsung Star on my cousins recommendation who himself works in Samsung Mobile. I was impressed with the phone for the initial few days but on the very 5th day the phone’s touchscreen stopped working completely.
It became completely useless, so I took the phone to a nearby Samsung Service Centre(a one room arrangement with no light and inadequate arrangement for seating) only to be told by the lady to leave the phone for atleast a week as they were out of stock of Samsung Star’s touchscreens.
I was told by my cousin about “Death on Arrival” or D/O certificate(as mentioned in another review here on Mouthshut) which is issued when a Samsung phone conks off within a week. It is issued to give the customer a new handset as a replacement for the damaged phone.
I now took the phone to Moti Nagar service centre in Delhi, the manager there told me that they cannot issue a D/O certificate and that I’ve to wait for a week to get the touchscreen replaced because as per the policy only if a phone is irreparable and the part to be replaced is not available for 7 days can the D/O certificate be issued. Anyways, it took me some help from my cousin and few phone calls from a top official in Samsung to this service centre manager for the D/O to be issued.
Now when I’ve given this certificate to my dealer he is saying that it will take him 10-12 days to give me a replacement. What a joke…all made up to harass the customer to the point that he gives up.
So, please think twice before going for Samsung Star, it may not shine after all!
But for 5 days that I used the phone, I was really impressed. For just 8500 you are getting:
Brilliant Large Display
Decent Sound Quality
Outstanding graphics
Effective Touchscreen(till it works!)
Premium feel and finish
Easy to use PC syncronisation software
Hope you make a wise and an informed decision in the end….
