I use a Samsung Syncmaster 793s 17 inch monitor. This is a good monitor for those who feel 14/15 inch are too small. Though it?s a 2/3 inches difference it does make a lot of difference. This is ideal for both home users as well as professional users.
If u are buying for ur own usage, and plan to keep the PC at ur home forever, then its good to make a one time buy and have a 17inch monitor. It can cost u anywhere between 5500-6200 depending on the color as well as where u buy it, and of course at what last price the dealer/seller is willing to give it to u. let me explain: the black monitor will cost u around 200-250 Rs more than what u pay for the white one. I was eyewitness when a friend of mine bought a black one of the species at Delhi, the last prices were: 5500 for the white, 5700 for the black.
Few days later I bought mine from Bangalore and did find a price difference. After enquiring at abt 7-8 places the best rate that I was given was:6050 for the white one, 6300 for black. I bought white. I am assuming the price difference is mainly due to the fact that the Samsung?s manufacturing facility is at Noida. Still I felt the price difference was a bit more!! Though it looks flat, it?s not fully flat, it?s just almost flat. U can make out the very slight curvature at the boundary between the monitor glass and the plastic frame.
It allows resolutions ranging from 640 x 480, to 1280 x 1024 in different color modes. The monitor comes with a driver CD, a power cable (2 ended 3 blade connector type). Connects to PC thru a 9 pin serial port connector. The monitor is plug & play, meaning in most cases u just need to connect the monitor and no need to install with CD. But its worthwhile to run the CD once as it has help files and screen shot as to how to adjust the monitor + some display utilities.
The html help on CD is very graphic, it has instructions about how to set the monitor, and different parameters like brightness, color, screen width, height, screen position etc. u can make these arrangements using the pushbutton controls that u find at the side panel. There is onscreen display to help u thru this. Like all monitors these days it has a rotary adjustable base.
Overall this is a good monitor to have, good for watching movies etc. if u have a TV tuner card, it?s almost another TV for u. so far faced no problems. Support and service is good, though so far I didn?t have to get any for this product from Samsung
