This is a handy, small, lightweight, portable solid state hard drive. Im almost inclined to call it more of a large flash drive. USB3 get files on and off the drive very quickly. Hopefully the fact that it is solid state, will lessen the likelihood of a hard drive crash, but my experience with these newer drives as a long term backup solution is limited, so well see.
The drive, and Samsungs website confirms, that this drives works with usb 2 and usb 3 controllers. On usb 3 is works like a champ, comes right up and never gives any problems. With usb 2 controllers, however, that is not the case. Sometimes it will work fine, other times you have to trick it by removing the usb device in device manager and let windows re-find it and reinstall it and then it will generally work though you may have to do this more than once. Once the drive likes the usb 2 device it will continue to do so, which is good. Another thing, this drive has plastic housing. The drive feels flimsy, cheap, and not very durable. Im worried the housing would not survive a fall from a desktop, which might make it as vulnerable as a traditional hard drive. Im not in a position to test one against the other, nor do I want to.
