We went there recently (April 2010) and stayed at the hotel savshanti. The hotel is well maintained and the bathrooms are nice and clean. Big balconies. Nice view. The food - not good. The Gujarati thali in the afternoon was okay. We ordered Chinese and pizza in the evening. Not good. Breakfast - so so. Most items in the menu not served.
Saputara itself was hot and humid. Monsoon it seems is the best weather to visit. Also, the points etc. are nothing to write home about. But the ice golas at the table land were good. The lake is small. No shopping area. No credit cards. No reliance. No coconuts. And no good food. But we got to see the tribal dance arranged by the hotel which was good. The ropeway was okay, but I feel safer in a giant wheel. Also, take a look at the not so well maintained museum, good for the kids to know how the pre-historics lived.
One day and you want to go home. Overall just about okay (B minus) experience. Not worth the 8 hour drive from Pune. Maybe in the monsoon it is not that bad.
Highlight of the trip - great lunch at the Chateau Indage Wine Bar at Narayangaon on the highway returning to Pune.
