What is it with Big B, I feel he is just like old wine.......maturing with age. this is not to say that his earlier movies were bad, but now, with globalisation, liberalisation et al. he has successfully redefined himself as a very special character artist but still manages to carry an entire film on his own shoulders.
Sarkar is in a major part Big B, but the small B also manages to match him step by step in this Ramu product. one thing that u can be assured about all ramu films is the excellent quality of lighting, camerawork and the realistic settings. on this score, sarkar too holds true.
no point writing the story again, many before me have already done that. abt the fact that it is modelled on Godfather, well I felt only the 1st half was, and in it too, only the beginning. not much semblance, but u also have to consider the fact that if this is Godfather, it is in an Indian setting.
Lots of positives going for this film, firstly, it wont bore u........the pace is good, secondly the accurate depiction of the lifestyle of a Mumbaiya don, thirdly, gripping performances, not jus by Big & small B, but also by KK, and other fringe actors. an element of humor is also brought into the movie wen u tend to identify the characters in the film, like there is a swamiji who is a Chandraswami lookalike.
overall, a good movie but it must be said that the name of Ramu is so big in the movie world now that weve started to expect a lot more from him. perhaps thats why this movie felt a little bit short on my personal expectations. my major grouse, even though there were no songs, the background sound was too loud.
