As a “not so very enthusiastic to study” student I was not looking forward to go so far away to a university for studying even more. I always hated school and it was a nightmare to think about the fact that I’d be going to a well reputed university and would stay far away from home as I was staying in the hostel.
Almost like a little child my parents dragged me to the university two days before my academic year would start. I had not seen the hostel before and when I arrived I was, to be honest, surprised. I never went to a hostel before and had heard many negative stories about life in a hostel. I had the vision that it would be close to a what a prison would look like, only the hygiene would be a little better. However, nothing was less true. When I opened the door of my room I was surprised how spacious it was. Yes, of course I had to share my room but that was just fine.
The first morning, breakfast, also about that I had heard many bad things. That the food in hostels is always cold, it is horrible in taste, many get food poisoning, etc. I was literally terrified. But yet again, nothing was less true. Obviously you don’t have to expect 7 star restaurant meals, but it was really good. So much variety, veg and non-veg. I’m a vegetarian and I hate the smell of non-veg food. I don’t know how they managed it but I didnt smell the non-veg food; it was only because of seeing it that I got to know that they also serve non-veg food.
When the first break came near, and I had planned a trip to home, I almost didn’t want to leave. The hostel surely made my educational career easy and more enjoyable.
Placement
As everybody else, having a placement through the university “sets you for life”. Same counted for me. At the end of your program you are not the only one wanting/needing a placement. All your co-students are also graduating and also want to be placed in a good company. The difficulty level is thus very very very high. Some of my friends, back at home, are studying in different universities and non of them got placed. Me on the other hand, I was one of those super lucky students that got a placement in a great company with competitive package. Even more, one year later I received an opportunity from a USA company! I couldnt be more happy of course. Apparently that USA company knows Sathyabama and has had more applicants from Sathyabama.
