Indian cinema surely has a new face these days. With movies like Iqbal, Black doing really well. Our directors are trying to come out with something different from the normal commercial stuff & kudos to them for their efforts. With movies like these coming out Indian cinema is surely going places.
Since iam talking about movies with offbeat themes let me talk about a movie called Sau Jhooth Ek Sach. Its a movie based on JB Preiseley’s novel ‘Inspector Calling’ & is directed by a debutant Bappaditya Roy.The film doesn’t boast of a big known starcast & nor does it have any catchy songs which will catch the viewers attention. But the strength of the movie lies in the subject which is very novel & very few directors can handle such kind of a subject perfectly.According to me Bappaditya Roy being a first timer directing such a complex subject has done a fantastic job.Not easy for a first timer to handle such a intense movie with ease.
Sau jhooth…..is a story about how one night changes the lifes of a high society industrialist family.Business tycoon Vikrant Pradhan(Vikram Gokhale) has thrown a big party at his bunglow on the launch of a unique Dry Gin under their brand name & to announce their daughter Zoya’s(Neha Dubey) marriage to industrialist Khanna’s son Ambrish(Joy Sengupta). The night goes on & the party gets over with all the guests taking leave. But they have an uninvited guest after the party in the form of Inspector Vivek(Manmooty). He is on duty & is investigating a suicide case of a girl. An unknown pregnant girl has ended her life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in a room of a little known chawl.Baffled by being linked to the incident & Inspector vivek’s constant nagging the Pradhan’s give into the interrogation reluctantly. As the night grows deeper & deeper the questions asked by inspector vivek to the family uncover some of the darkest secrets which every member of the family has within their minds.Slowly slowly each member of the family starts feeling that somewhere down the line they are connected to this incident. They are completely left in a daze by inspector vivek after he leaves from there. But soon as they discuss the whole incident amongst them & come to terms with the incident they find out that there is no such person as inspector vivek & there was no suicide incident of a pregnant girl which the inspector was talking about and above all, there were no visitors to the house since its main gates got closed after the party. So who was this uninvited visitor & where did he come from.Next morning at the breakfast table Vikrant Pradhan reads a article in the newspaper about a unknown pregnant girl ending her life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in a room of a little known chawl. The Pradhans are shocked as it was the same incident which inspector vivek was talking about last night. And the next moment the phone rings & the Pradhans are shocked hearing the persons voice on the phone.
A very interesting plot which will keep you guessing whats going on.Vikram Gokhale is in terrific form & gives a knock out performance.Manmooty is good as the cop but his mallu lingo is a bit of a drawback.Joy sengupta is another actor to watch out for.Neha Dubey is fine. The other main actors include Lillette Dubey as Mrs Pradhan & Kiran Jhanjhani as Pradhan’s son.
This movie is definitely not for the masses but is mainly for people who enjoy meaningful, responsible cinema.
