I really think the title over here is as apt as apt can be. Saurav ganguly IS the Indian captain and he’s not there because he’s got some big jack in the administrative system. He’s there because he’s got some ability. He’s definitely one of the few captains alongside Stephen Fleming, who can really look Steve Waugh in the eye. His record speaks for itself. His century rate is more than anyone else in the world, even Sachin. His debut was in 92, but he really started playing only since 94, thats 5 years after Tendulkar and hes already the second highest century scorer and way ahead of greats like Brian Lara, Steve and Mark Waugh, Saeed Anwar and company.
He’s displayed it by becoming the most successful Indian captain ever and its now, that the Indian tean looks anywhere near a world beating team. We were just too used to a team of losers who really had no spine and went down like mice when the tough times came. The tough sides like Australia thought of India as a cakewalk and filled the media with stupid comments on them. And our goody goody boys never reacted. After all, the lamb never reacts to the butchers abuses, does it. I really like Ganguly’s nerve and the way he’s battled it out for his team and his junior wards in various situations.
