India s Answer to Steve Waugh

With the recent victory in the second test match at Port of Spain, Ganguly becomes the most successful Indian captain away from home. having captained India in 10 away matches, he has the enviable record of winning 4 games with a 40% win record.

Looking at his performance at home its is not surprising then to see that he has captained India to 10 victories in 20 tests loosing only 5 and drawing the remaining.

While it maybe too soon to compare him with the prolific Steve Waugh in terms of success ratios, Sourav has proved himself as India’s most successful captain till date winning a total of 14 tests from 30 matches played.

A far cry from the days when he refused to carry baggage and water to players, in his role of the twelfth man in the Indian side.

It is also true that the rest of the country would love to see him score some more runs with the bat, but this does not in any ways signify that he has lost form with the willow. His recent 75 n.o. bears testimony to that fact.

With three more tests remaining he has everything to win and therefore wrap the series.

We wish him all the best and ferverently pray that the Indian media starts giving credit where it is due.
