He’s surely the best captain India has ever has! He’s also lasted longest as a captain. But something wrong with him is that as a batsman he’s not performed so well AFTER he became captain. Before that he used to be amongst the best batsmen of the world.
But that sort of things happen when you have the pressure of becoming captain. He still leads the team with confidence and India has won maximum matches with him as captain.
See what happened to Dravid when he had to lead the team in Sourav’s absence in the 2nd match of the Indo- Pak test series in Pakistan. He got out on 6 and 0.
But overall I feel Sourav has been very effective as a captain!
