We had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Taj Savoy in Ooty during August 2008 for 3 days. We did a lot of research before we zeroed in on the hotel as we did not want to be disappointed. As we werent finding any hotel which had a unanimously positive review, we decided to go ahead with Hotel Taj Savoy because of theTaj brand name. This was in spite of the high price(we paid around 4000 per night - including breakfast and taxes) as compared to the other hotels in the area.
As soon as we landed there, our immediate reaction was - " It is worth the effort and price". They have a huge well maintained property and during the course of our stay we often felt that we would have loved to stroll around the hotel lawns rather than go out. The staff here is also extremely friendly, helpful and thoughtful.at the same time very unobtrusive. We felt thoroughly pampered and well taken care of. The food is excellent and their buffet meals are a must-have. The rooms are very spacious(and the bathrooms too!). All the rooms are provided with a fireplace too, that can be lit in the evenings. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.
They have events in the lawn every evening for the guests(this includes a bonfire). They also plan special cosy, candle-lit dinners on the lawn, on request. They also have indoor badminton and basketball courts, table tennis, carrom etc.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel.
