I bought a medical insurance policy through SBI General last year for my mother. The policy cover and the price was reasonable, however, SBI General is quite disgusting when it comes to Customer Service.
After collecting my premium, the agent simply disappeared without any update. I was given a 15 day period from the start date until which I can cancel the policy. However, it took over a month for me to even receive the policy document. So how do you review the terms and conditions of the policy if you do not get the policy document on time? They will keep chasing you until you make the cheque payment, but after that, they simply vanish. There was no update on the status, the customer service people said that they did not even receive my documents and I had to keep chasing the agent for my policy document for over a month. Real crap service.
After that, I experience real rubbish services from SBI General. The policy document had the incorrect gender of the policy holder(despite entering the correct details in the form). It took me nearly 4 months to get it corrected. Had to keep chasing them for such a simple update. They keep passing the responsibility from here to there, but no one takes the onus. Its a real shame.
Moreover, I selected Direct debit as the option for my policy, which means the renewal premium should be directly debited from my bank account. However, they simply terminated my policy on the renewal date and did not debit any premium. They did not even send me a renewal notice, neither by email, nor by phone and nor by post, but had the guts to terminate my policy without prior information. Thats really shameful.
I wanted to continue with their policy as I have a bank account with SBI and I am quite happy with their banking services. However, after this treatment, I have lost confidence in SBI General insurance and will look for medical insurance services else where. SBI General customer service is despicable.
I am not sure about their claim services as I did not make any claim in the past year.
Hope this helps.
